To some, gold jewelry is a symbol of wealth and opulence. To others it even holds a metaphysical significance in its attractive power. They believe it can heal wounds and align the spiritual energies that flow through us. Whatever the case, it is clear that gold jewelry does indeed have an attractive nature to it.
Scarcity in nature is what drives competition and my personal opinion is that we are attracted to rare things. The reason for this attraction lies in evolution. As part of our desire for survival, we have an instinct to acquire property and resources. Within this instinct falls the notion of having something others do not - i.e. something rare and unique. The basis for societal status in our world is fundamentally established in biology.
Thus I consider gold jewelry and its effect on the human psyche. I think that we are attracted to this rare and beautiful metal because it makes us feel good knowing others perceive us as having something unique and valuable. In a way it makes our very own sense of value rise.
